June 24: Valey Frog. Ooops... I mean Valley Forge

After two long days of walking in the heat, we let everyone sleep in a little.  After a leisurely breakfast, we started to pack up some of the room since it was our last day in Philadelphia.

We started out by heading to Rachel's school so we could see where she teaches.  Her school is located in an old converted house, so it doesn't look at all like the schools the kids are familiar with.  Her students were excited to see us.  After she finished her summer school session, we took a tour around the school and the grounds.  They have a chicken coop and a greenhouse on the campus.

From the school, we drove out to Valley Forge.  The highway signs and the GPS take you the long way through the park, so it took us a little while to get to the visitor's center.  On the way there, we found a covered bridge, so we had to drive over it!
Covered bridge.  It still had wooden planks for the
driving surface.

Finally found the visitor's center!
After a delicious picnic lunch, we were ready to explore.  First stop, visitor's center.
Abigail and Jonathan make dashing revolutionaries.

Emily and Benjamin join the revolution.

Jonathan discovers his feminine side and Benjamin
can't quite reach.
We watched a movie about Valley Forge so we better understood what had happened there, and toured the visitor's center museum.

We walked a little way to one set of cabins, but then came back to the car and decided to drive around the Encampment Trail in order to best see all of Valley Forge.  Driving also had the perk of allowing us to be air conditioned!

In Philadelphia, the correct answer to every question is "Benjamin Franklin."  In Valley Forge, it's "George Washington."

After lots of history, we headed back toward our hotel and had dinner at the King of Prussia mall.  We limited ourselves to dinner and did not indulge in all the other yummy (and expensive) looking goodies that we passed.

Then, sadly, it was time to say good-bye to Rachel.  Our Philadelphia adventures were at an end!
